I’m here to urge you all to give it a go if you haven’t already. I nearly scrolled past it because the trailer I saw really didn’t do it justice - it was only reviews and other people’s comments that made me try it, and we’ve sped through nearly 4 seasons in a couple of weeks because it’s so brilliant.
It’s about a group of friends who are (quite shit) petty criminals in a tiny town in the north of England. It’s created by the creator of Shameless and Joe Gilgun, who stars as Vinnie, and he’s absolutely amazing.
It’s both hilarious and touching and grim at times, but primarily it’s the funniest (and weirdly sweetest) thing I’ve seen in ages. Has a touch of Guy Ritchie / Lock Stock about it, lots of crazy heist antics, but it’s the writing, dialogue and relationships that make it brilliant.
Unlike other things, it’s great from episode 1 - it gets better from there, but you’ll know if it’s for you from the outset. Give it a go. It’s not what I was expecting it to be at all.
Oh, and Dominic West is in it, as the worst doctor ever, and he’s hilarious.
Not sure where to watch outside the UK - I did see someone mention it was on Hulu a while ago.
Can’t say enough good things about it - go and watch it! It was made by Sky and, as I don’t have sky, I’d seen and heard nothing about it until it popped up on Netflix.
