Okay, so I don’t know if I’m over reacting, but I’m a bit upset.

My boss sent an email to me and my (male) coworker. He is sort of like a “manager”. An incident happened, and the boss wanted some input. He gave me his rundown of ideas, and then he was on his merry way. After I read the email, I pulled him over and gave him my idea on how to handle the issue and what to implement to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

I began writing back to my boss, and he immediately stopped me and said he needed to see what I was writing. He then told me the email has to come from him, as he’s a manager and I’m not. I was upset, but said okay, so long as he CC’s me and explains the conversation we had (how it was my idea).

He did mention me in the email, but he made it seem like we both came up with the idea, and gave himself most of the credit. I was upset, and he kept asking me why I cared so much, and making me seem immature for wanting credit for my own idea.

I just think if my boss sent me an email, it shouldn’t have mattered who emailed her back manager or not. He was also super reluctant to even CC me. I just am really upset that I came up with the idea and he now is trying to pass it off like he was part of it, and he tried to take credit for all of it.

Has this happened to anyone else? Or something similar?
