What makes the "Bent-Neck Lady" such a good twist from the Haunting of Hill House?

When it comes to stunning twists in movie and TV history, you often think of Darth Vader being Luke’s father. The Red Wedding from Game of Thrones.

And then there’s the Bent-Neck Lady.

In hindsight, it feels like the Red Wedding like it’s something we should’ve seen coming, and if you pay attention to the context clues, it’s all right there and laid out. But EVERY TIME I watch Hill House I still get FLOORED when that reveal happens. So…what is it about this twist that makes everyone who sees it and reacts to it completely flabbergasted?
