I would like to point out the fact that quite paradoxically, the football and most other sports markets are much freer and less regulated in Europe then in America. American club sports resemble more a socialist system. With the exception of the 50+1 rule in Germany (though the Bundesliga is still a much freer market than the MLS). Which Leads to the European clubs being unbeatable for any American football club.
This is a highly controversial topic around football fans, mostly because players tend to choose transfers just over money, and the most successful clubs are often those who manage their wealth the best.
But with regular companies, the goal is actually to be as successful as possible, meaning producing as much for the cheapest price as possible. In such, the difference of quality between european and American football clubs could indicate the free markets are more effective than planned ones.
I am btw. Not saying that the european leagues have no problems, I am arguing solely in terms of effectiveness.
But next time you see an MLS club playing against Barca, real, Bayern, Liverpool or other clubs, remember: that’s basically capitalism beating socialism in a game.
