Tyler Grisham is the wide receiver coach AND the recruiting coordinator. Recruiting coordinator being one of the most important roles an assistant coach can take on. Grisham’s coaching background is basically non existent. He played for Dabo, played couple years in the NFL, then came back to Clemson as a Graduate Assistant in 2014. He worked as a Grad Assistant for a couple years then got promoted to Offensive Analyst and worked that until 2020. Jeff Scott who was one of the mastermind architects of the juggernaut Clemson offense of old left to become a head coach. Grisham was promoted to wide receiver coach. So this guy is now the full time WR coach of the powerhouse Clemson with literally not a single snap of football coaching experience under his belt. Lets stay with the timeline and realize that the moment he becomes the WR coach is the when the offense starts to decline. Yes he got one season with Trevor Lawrence and the receivers Jeff Scott recruited. After that its all been mediocre.
Starting at the end of 2021 going into 2022 he becomes the Recruiting Coordinator as well. Not to insult anyone’s intelligence but this coach coordinates all aspects of recruiting. Clemson’s recruiting class national rankings
2019 – 12th
2020 - 3rd
2021 – 5th
2022 – 14th
2023 – 15th
2024 – 15th
2025 current ranking - 15th
Recruiting is the life blood of the program and the recruiting coordinator is the pulse along with the head coach. Do I think Grisham is solely to blame for everything? Of course not. Dabo is as much to blame as well, definitely for keeping him on as long but clearly they are buddy buddy. In my honest opinion though Grisham is absolutely one of the biggest problems with Clemson. Shouldn’t be anywhere near a Power 5 assistant coaching job and absolutely shouldn’t be in charge of recruiting.
