I see this regularly come up in arguments, that people can't simply move from high cost of living areas to low cost of living areas because it's too expensive/hard/etc.

I don't understand this, while I can see how there is incentive to stay (family or friends in the area, already have a job, moving requires effort) if you're literally in a situation where you can't afford rent, those incentives seem miniscule.

Is there something I'm missing that makes moving around with our modern transportation harder than I think?
