Preseason Power Rankings:
We’re back! And we’re bigger than ever! That’s right, the Big Ten has generously welcomed some refugees from the Pac-12 conference. Everybody say hello to…/checks notes…ULCER, South Carolina, Warshington, and some video game from the 80s!
…I’m being told that’s not quite right. UCLA, USC, Washington, and Oregon! Welcome, everybody.
Man, these rankings are big now. Here I thought 14 was a lot of teams to keep track of, now there’s 18. To start off, we have our usual up at the top in the preseason: Ohio State. Oregon comes in at #2, making them the highest-ranked newcomer to the conference. UCLA, meanwhile, is the lowest-ranked newcomer, all the way down at 15. And bringing up the rear of the conference is the State of Indiana, sitting in a near-tie (seriously, only 11 points separates them) right at the bottom.
With all these new teams and new fans coming in, it’s clear we really have no idea how this conference stacks up yet. I’ve been doing these rankings for…holy shit, around a decade at this point, and I’ve never seen variances this large. Overall they’ll come down as we start to see the teams in action, and especially once conference play begins and we see these teams go head-to-head. But for now, let’s just enjoy not knowing anything.
