Video quality of classic sitcoms from 50's 60's better than 70's 80's 90's. Why?

TV shows from the 50’s and 60’s like “I Love Lucy” and “The Dick Van Dyke Show” look pretty good. “The Dick Van Dyke Show” is incredibly sharp and streams at 1080p. But later sitcoms like “Three’s Company” and “Seinfeld” look like i’m watching them on an old tube TV from the 80’s. Were the originals preserved better for these older classics?
