The Tank Job of the Week is an award for the FBS team that did the best job of humiliating itself over the weekend. Whether they blew a large lead, choked away a spot in the limelight, lost a game they had absolutely no right losing, or completely screwed everything on a last second blunder, the TJOTW winner sets the gold standard in college football misery.
I said I wasn’t gonna do it.
I said there were only four games.
I said I was just gonna focus on finishing the Tank Job 100 and if any team proved worthy of the award I would just unilaterally appoint them.
And then Week 0 had to go and give us OPTIONS.
So here we are, folks. For the first time ever we are doing a Tank Job of the Week VOTE for Week 0. I suppose we might as well start the Brave New World of 2024 off right.

And now, the nominees for Week 0 are…
FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLES (lost to Georgia Tech 24-21)
After an offseason’s worth of griping about how they’ve outgrown the ACC and want out to another conference, the Noles headed to Dublin to take on projected ACC midpacker Georgia Tech. Despite a much heralded front seven, FSU allowed 190 rushing yards to Tech, who strangled the game and kept the Noles to just seven possessions. FSU did manage to tie things up with 6:33 to go, but the Jackets embarked on a long, game ending drive to set up a 44-yard field goal to stun the 10-piont favorites.
NEVADA WOLF PACK (lost to SMU 29-24)
The Pack were MASSIVE underdogs to SMU, but started strong and actually led 24-13 with ten minutes remaining when they pinned SMU at their own 2. Then they gave up a 98 yard scoring drive, botched the kickoff leading to a safety, and gave up the fatal pass when RJ Maryland slipped down the sideline with just 78 seconds remaining. They had a chance at the huge upset and just fell apart. Besides, I only have three possible nominees this week so might as well put them all in.
NEW MEXICO LOBOS (lost to Montana State 35-31)
We have a rule in TJOTW- lose to an FCS squad and you are automatically nominated. Even if that FCS team was a thirteen point favorite heading in. That said, New Mexico did score the first 17 points, and led 31-14 before 21 Bobcat points in the fourth quarter did them in- the last coming with just 10 seconds left.
