A little while ago I came across this amazing YouTube channel, Owen Davies, who uses AI and manual tweaking to remaster older shows to 4K and it made me wonder why this isn’t done by official production companies for re-release.
Is there really no money to be made in remastering old shows and selling them to streaming services or whoever?
This guy has remastered a bunch of awesome shows such as:
That Mitchell and Webb Look, Dectectorists, Dead Like Me, The Tick, The Peter Serafinowicz Show, Utopia, Dirk Gently, Nathan Barley, Farscape and lots more.
He’s worked on lots of great shows and they all look amazing. It’s also not just shitty automatic AI upscaling but done with a lot of care and hard work. I recommend checking out the playlists on his channel.
This video also goes into some detail on his process of remastering shows.
