Per Wiki: “In episodic television, a bottle episode or bottle show is an episode produced cheaply and restricted in scope to use as few regular cast members, effects and sets as possible.”
Usually it’s an episode that doesn’t fall in the linear story of the show. Like someone just plopped it in the middle of the timeline. Ofttimes, it’s a flashback story. It also often takes place in a single location.
Some examples would include: the Fly episode of Breaking Bad; the parking garage or Chinese restaurant episodes of Seinfeld; there have been several I’ve noticed on The Bear.
Anyway, I love them! Sometimes they can seem like a waste of time, but if done properly then I think they’re great. Just wanted to see what the rest of Reddit thought of them!
