I (20f) was set up at a squat rack doing heavy squats today, the gym was empty which was great. Until this older guy (50-60ish) who trains there came in, we’ll say hi to one another as we’re usually always there at the same time, and I’ve let him work in on a few occasions when the gym has been super busy.

This time he asked to work in with me (to use the pull up bar attached to the squat rack) when the gym was EMPTY… there’s 6 other places I know of to do pull ups… before I’d have probably accepted out of politeness but I told him he can once I’m done because come on there’s no other people here why do you have to use the same equipment I’m on. He did another exercise somewhere but came back and just stood there watching me so I stopped what I was doing and told him to just get his sets over and done with I’ll wait. So he did, but I regret not saying come on there’s so many other pull up bars here this is ridiculous. I stood watching him/waiting and probably looked pissed off so hopefully he got the message and doesn’t try it again.

Am I kind of an asshole for being so annoyed by this? I’ll happily work in with anyone if all the equipment is busy but found this so annoying in an empty gym. I guess I see it like the urinal rule, if there’s equipment free why are you trying to squeeze in with someone else??
