WE’RE GOING THROUGH EACH P4 TEAM’S SCHEDULE AND PICKING EVERY GAME.
Today we have the Virginia Tech Hokies.
After a half decade of mediocrity, Virginia Tech bottomed out in 2022 under first year coach Brent Pry. 2023 was expected to be more of the same but the Hokies bounced back to earn their first winning season since 2019 and first bowl win since 2016.
Almost all of the talent from last year returns including heisman dark horse Kyron Drones at QB. The hype has gotten big enough to label this team as a fringe contender for the ACC in 2024. They stand among teams like Louisville and NC State as that next tier behind the 3 favorites.
The schedule is very friendly, as they dodge Florida State, Louisville, and NC State, and get Clemson at home. Miami is the same test both at home and on the road so it’s good that they travel to Miami rather than Death Valley .
Rutgers could be an early test in a look ahead spot but that game is also at home, and they also get a plucky Georgia Tech team in Blacksburg as well.
I see on the road at Syracuse as a huge trap game the week before the Clemson game. I think this team will be a 7-1 top 15 team going into that game and could be looking ahead to a massive matchup at home the next week.
I see a loss coming to one of Georgia Tech, Syracuse, or Clemson, I’m just not sold on which one. Clemson would be the obvious pick but I think the Hokie can use Lane Stadium to their advantage and do what Duke did to them last year.
The floor is probably around 7-5 with how much talent they bring back, but the ceiling is 11-1 with how many important games they get at home.
How do you see it?
