- If you’re criticising The Acolyte on the basis that it’s supposedly ‘woke’, you’re hopelessly lost. A show can be woke and brilliant, take for example Andor or Arcane. Both had a diverse cast, gay characters, strong women, anti-establishment politics etc etc. …and were beautifully written, so ‘wokeness’ was irrelevant. Ergo the ‘wokeness’ of a show does not determine whether a story is good or not.
- The Acolyte was indeed garbage, not because of wokeness, but because of its flat acting, sophomoric script, poor pacing and unlikeable characters. If it was well written, the fact that it had gay characters etc wouldn’t have been an issue, except to bigots.
In short, The Acolyte deserved to be cancelled, but not because it was ‘woke’. Those who throw around ‘woke’ as a criticism are undermining the legitimate criticisms the rest of us are leveling at the show.
EDIT: Hilarious how many messages have been removed. 130 replies but less than 20 being displayed at the time of writing. Clearly lots of bigots being toxic. Sad!
