Counting down to the beginning of the season I’m going to attempt to post one player per day for the last 99 matching their jersey number to the days left until kick off. The players will be random. Use this thread to celebrate and Talk About Some DudesTM

Eddie George was from Philadelphia, PA and played for both Abington Senior High School and Fork Union Military Academy (in Virginia) after a post-graduate year he chose to play college football at Ohio State.

George made a big impression early in his 1992 freshman - scoring three TDs in a win over #8 Syracuse in the Carrier dome. But just two games later saw a major set back for the young back. Eddie fumbled fumbled at the Illinois 4 yard line and it was returned for a touchdown. Later in the game with a lead Eddie fumbled again at the Illinois 1-yard line. Illinois recovered and drove for a game winning TD to beat the Buckeyes 18-16 in Ohio Stadium. Eddie would see only 12 more carries for the rest of the season.

He entered his 1993 sophomore season as the third back on the depth chart. He carried the ball only 42 times for the season. But when he did carry the ball he flashed - averaging 5.3 yards per carry.

Eddie reearned the coaches trust and took over as a starter in his junior year of 1994. he tallied 1442 yards and 12 TDs.

His 1995 senior year is where Eddie vaulted himself into super stardom. Eddie put up 200 yard games in 3 of his first four games. In a kind of full-circle retribution Eddie ran for a school-record 314 yards and 3 TDs in the team’s victory over Illinois. He set an OSU record with 1927 yards and 24 TDs along with 47 receptions (tripling his career total) and 417 yards. Eddie’s performance culminated in a unanimous All-American selection, the Silver Football, the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year award, the Maxwell, the Walker, the Camp and a narrow 264 vote win over Tommie Frazier for the Heisman Trophy.

Eddie left Ohio State with the school record 3768 rushing yards and 44 TDs (the third most in Ohio State history).

He went onto be drafted 14th overall by the Houston Oilers. He played 128 consecutive games for the Oilers/Titans. He was a member of the PFWA All-Rookie team, was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, was first-team All-Pro in 2000, second-team All-Pro in 1999 and was a four time Pro Bowler.

Eddie’s #27 was retired by both the Titans and Buckeyes. He also is a member of the Oilers/Titans ring of honor. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2011.
