- Oklahoma State vs Utah
This is THE matchup it seems in the Big 12 this year. Both teams will most likely be ranked (as long as the Pokes don’t slip up in the noncon). It is shaping up to be an electric atmosphere in BPS.
- UCF vs Florida
Yes, I know UCF beat Florida in a bowl game a couple years ago but this is a regular season game where it’s time for UCF to prove whether or not they really belong. People can clown on Billy Napier all they want (I’m not saying some of that isn’t unwarranted) but there are very few environments more intimidating than the Swamp…just ask Tennessee fans.
- Penn State vs WVU
Kind of staying on the same logic as UCF, this is obviously a massive game for the Mountaineers. Penn State routed WVU last year in a raucous Happy Valley, but now it’s WVU’s turn to shake up the CFB season with a potential upset early on into the season. Neal Brown was seemingly on his deathbed, coaching for his life at WVU, and he turned out a 9-4 season. Are the Mountaineers for real? We’ll find out very soon.
- Miami vs Florida
It seems that both these teams seasons could have a glimpse toward the future depending on how this game goes. I wouldn’t necessarily say Mario Cristobal is coaching for his life at this point but Billy Napier absolutely is. These two programs don’t get together very often but there’s no doubt, they don’t like each other. It should be a wild environment in the Swamp and the fan base that is on the losing side of this will be on full meltdown mode and I cannot wait to see it.
- Colorado vs NDSU
If you wanted a theme for my picks, I guess it would have to be “is this team for real?”. We are all wondering this about the Buffs. I don’t know who in the CU athletics department had the 1,000 IQ idea of scheduling NDSU, but they should be fired. No, this is not the NDSU of the 2010’s, but they are still at the very worst the 2nd best program right now in all of FCS. Deion has structured his team around using the transfer portal…which is an important factor in today’s world of college athletics, but there seems to be little focus on HS recruiting, which in my opinion (if that means anything to you), should still be a focus on BUILDING a program. The Buffs better not underestimate the Bison, because it could spell a disastrous season going forward.
