2024 FBS Imperialism Map - Preseason

IT’S ALMOST TIME

Everybody welcome Kennesaw State to the map!

If you’re new to this I’ll explain what’s going on. Every team claims the counties closest to their home stadium to start the season off. It’s based off the midpoint of each county and uses an equation that takes into account the curvature of the Earth. (I kept the regular home stadium for Kansas and not Arrowhead Stadium)(same thing with Northwestern. I didn’t look up where they’re playing this season, but either way I kept Ryan Field as their home field)

After each week, the winning team will take the land owned by the losing team. If the losing team has no land to give, no land will be awarded. If a team loses to an FCS team, that FCS team will be awarded land of the losing FBS team.

Some comments I want to address now that I heard last year over and over and over:

  1. Alaska and the other states without FBS teams will continue to be included in the map and no amount of commenting will change that. This is a imperialism map of the United States and those states are states no matter what.
  2. Likewise, I will not be including Ireland because Ireland is not part of the US and where a game is played really has no baring on how land is awarded.
  3. Finally, this has nothing to do with fans in a given county. I understand the confusion when looking at this map for the first time, but this is just geography and has nothing to do with fans or how popular a team is.

On the Imgur link, I have the map as well as the land ownership document so you can see how many square miles, population, and counties each team has. It also has who’s team land each team owns (the logos between “# of Co.” and “This Week”) Plus it shows the results of last week and the games coming up this week.

So the Top 5 Teams by Land:

  1. Washington - 609,109 sq mi
  2. Minnesota - 174,758.9 sq mi
