In matters of public health and safety, but not sure how to best define that line. But a basic requirement of a functional govt is ensuring general welfare of its constituents.
Think fire codes, seatbelts, highway and bridge standards, food safety regulations, construction codes/standards, electrical codes/standards, drug safety, masks during pandemic (not so much locking down outdoor venues), aviation safety standards etc
Basically if an action only hurts person doing it? Hands off. Like drug use.
If an action can hurt/endanger general public but still serves a purpose? Regulate it as needed (like food safety for restaurants)
So the argument is, in these scenarios, we need government.
Am interested in seeing a dialectical discussion on this here.
