I see lots of post that a school cant leave if the GOR is enforceable. This is usually reasoned that said school signed over the broadcast rights and thus not be able to televise or profit from their games. I don’t practice law but I do work with contracts & I have never seen a party compelled to provide a good or service when they break the contract, but instead they pay damages the other-side can show.

This is explained here;

In the case of bolting the ACC, assuming the GOR is enforceable, they would owe monetary damages that the ACC can demonstrate. For example if the payout from ESPN went down and the ACC could not (in good faith) negotiate a better deal then the schools leaving would have to pay. Given the B12 recent deal if FSU left it is possible the payout would not go down at all, making it hard to claim damages.

Happy to hear thought from those who deal with these issues.
