The expectations for Oregon are through the roof this year. It’s their first year in the Big 10 and I fully expect them to contend for the conference title, as does everyone. As of right now, I would even pick them to win it all (although I do go back and forth with them and Ohio State) but first let’s examine their path to the Big 10 championship. First they play Idaho, Boise State, and Oregon State and as funny as a loss would be it 1) wouldn’t even matter for the Big 10 race and 2) I highly doubt that will happen. So I think Oregon cruises to an easy 3-0 after what is potentially a bittersweet rivalry game against their former PAC 12 foes (at least bittersweet for the neutral fans; they will probably still both hate each other).
Then Oregon gets a week off to rest up before conference play. Their first conference opponent is a known Big 10 powerhouse, a team who goes way back in this conference—days even. That’s right, you guessed it, it’s UCLA! It’ll be on the road but I don’t think that will matter much, as I like Oregon to win big. Then they play Michigan State in another game I expect Oregon to take. After that we get what very well might be a preview to the Big 10 Championship game with Oregon taking on Ohio State in Eugene. Home field advantage could give Oregon the edge but this is a game I don’t care to predict this far out.
Purdue and Illinois should be a cakewalk for Oregon. Could be some shenanigans, you never know, but no sane person is picking against Oregon at the moment in these two games. Michigan at the Big House is another fun game too. That should be a packed game and easily the most hostile environment Oregon will play in all year. I’m definitely excited for this game and I hope it lives up to the hype, but I do lean Oregon since there are more questions with Michigan than there are Oregon. Maryland will probably be another cakewalk barring any crazy CFB antics. Wisconsin could be a solid team that gives Oregon some trouble but I still like Oregon in that game.
Finally, they play Washington and this year it’s during rivalry week which is a big change. To be honest I think I preferred this during the middle of the season but it’s a big rivalry worthy of being on rivalry week. I like Oregon to win but Washington could always spoil Oregon’s season. Oregon should be a great team this year. I expect them to pick things right up where they left them and I can see them winning every single game on their schedule giving them a ceiling of 12-0 but if they fall along the way I think they go 10-2 at the worst. It should be a smooth transition into their new transition for the Ducks and they’ll be a fun team to watch and a hard team to beat.
