Said to me when I mentioned the double standard in aging celebrities (he’s “a silver fox”, and “aged like a fine wine”, whereas she’s either “had a ton of work done” OR “let herself go”).

Women are, apparently, trying to compensate for the lack of the anti-aging properties of testosterone (??) with Botox and plastic surgery. Ignoring the basics of gravity and sun and wrinkles and laugh lines, “older men just look naturally better than older women”.

Oh, but don’t worry. It’s all ok because it just balances out the injustice of young (early 20s) women being way hotter than young men. Young women just have to “put on cute clothes and they get all kinds of shit for free”. Ignoring the wildly predatory nature of these “perks”, this has nothing to do with the literal hours young women feel obligated to spend on their personal appearance Every. Single. Morning. The pervasiveness of diet culture, fast fashion, cosmetics, and skin care being heavily (if not almost exclusively) aimed toward women, especially young women, starting as early as middle school? Irrelevant.

Spoiler alert: We’re (33f/36m) approaching 14 years together. When I asked “hey how is this supposed to make me feel?” I was told to stop making it all about me. How ridiculous of me to worry that this might be a problem a year or two down the road…
