Yesterday I started my period at 3am. Normally my periods are a light-moderate flow and I hardly ever get cramps. Which I consider myself extremely lucky for especially since I have PCOS and know it can be so much worse.

Well last night when my period started I had the most excruciating cramps I had ever had. I was curled up in the fetal position crying. I barely slept. By the time I went to work that day (I work 2nd) I had bled through a super tampon every hour.

At work I was still bleeding through a super tampon every hour-2 hrs. I was also passing tons of clots. My face was pale and I was dizzy.

I was sent to the nurse at work. Some additional info: since the beginning of this year, almost everytime i have sex with my fiance i hurt and have heavy bleeding after. This past monday for the first time the same happened after masterbating.

The nurse at work took my blood pressure and it was really high. After telling them all of my symptoms as well as the bleeding after sex, they advised me to go to the ER. I wanted to wait and just go to urgent care the next day since I didn’t feel like it was an emergency, but they freaked me out and convinced me to go.

I was at the ER for 4.5hrs before i was seen. 12hrs since it had all started. By that time I was no longer pale and not filling my tampon as quickly as I had before. They did bloodwork and an ultrasound. Ultrasound came back normal. But the doctor was so rude. I was treated like a dumb child who didn’t know what a period was. The doctor told me it was just my period and if I couldn’t handle it then I needed to get put on hormones. Even though i told her this is not normal for me. She did a quick pelvic exam and told me I wasn’t bleeding very much and to just follow up with my obgyn. Meanwhile, my legs were covered in blood and I was still having tons of blood clots come out. She didn’t even give me anything to clean myself with when she left. I had to waddle to the sink across the room to grab paper towels and wash myself off.

She said my hemoglobin count was perfect so I must not have been bleeding that much. But when I looked at my chart online after, my hemoglobin was low and had probably been a lot lower when my symptoms had first started when i was pale and dizzy. They also told me my blood pressure was perfect but when I looked at my chart it showed it was elevated.

She then discharged me with the diagnosis of menorrhagia even though she told me I wasn’t bleeding much.

I left feeling so stupid and confused and like she thought I was a joke. My fiance was with me and is angry about how dismissive she was.

Why don’t hospitals have Obgyns on call for the ER? This same thing happened when I had my ectopic pregnancy a few years back. I was at the ER 6 hours before they saw me because they wouldn’t believe me that I thought I was having a miscarriage or that something was wrong with my pregnancy. When I cried when they told me it was an ectopic they told me it was fine because it wasn’t a real baby anyways.

I’m just so done with being a woman. I feel like anything related to our uterus just gets dismissed and brushed away.

I am still bleeding abnormally more than normal but nothing crazy like when it initially started. I’m going to call Monday to get in with my obgyn. But I don’t think I’m ever going to the ER again about anything to do with my reproductive health.
