One of my biggest complaints about college football is that most major schools have been fielding teams for well over a century, yet there are tons of matchups that have never happened. I think it’s absurd that it took until the 2005 Rose Bowl for Michigan & Texas to meet on the gridiron. 2 of the 5 winningest teams in the history of the sport, yet somehow multiple generations went their whole lives without getting to see those helmets together on a field.
So what are some matchups for your school that just NEED to happen before you depart this mortal coil?
For me:
1- Washington. I’ll take a matchup anywhere I can get it, but man would I give anything for a home & home. I think it would be a blast to see my Dawgs take the field in Husky Stadium.
2- Iowa. Let me see my team play and get to take part in the greatest wave in all of sports.
3- Army. Would it be competitive? Probably not. But for anyone who’s a fan of history, there’s an undeniable mystique in the service academies.
4- Kansas State. A team with no history that came out of nowhere to be a superpower for a stretch. They may not be what they were, but that Snyder run made me really love that program.
5- Northwestern. Similar to KState, another purple wildcat that came out of nowhere to capture hearts and minds with that incredible run they made to the ‘96 Rose Bowl.
