We avoided it for two years bc a lot of poor to mediocre reviews and comments it was straight up boring and derivative.
I personally thought the hobbit “trilogy” was a film too long and not very entertaining to begin with (except the wizard and Sauron parts), and figured RoP was more tv i didn’t have time for.
I don’t quite get it though. Sure it wasn’t John wick in terms of action, but neither was the trilogy. Beautifully shot is an understatement, poignant poetic dialogue throughout, and compelling enough story that does add to the backdrop of the movies (I didn’t make it through all of the novels). Loved Elrond, Adar, Elendil, and the stranger in particular. Was a solid watch for us casual LOTR fans. Certainly better than the fiasco that was Disney Star Wars sequel trilogy, which seems like a similar situation.
The forced diversity thing was a eyeroller (I say this as a POC), but forgivable.
Certainly looking forward to S2 in a few weeks. (How many are there expected to be?)
What were the problems you had with it, if any, compared to the Peter Jackson films or original books?
