I was listening to Christian Caple and Danny O’Neil on their Say Who, Say Pod and Christian made a really good point.
It seems that the networks are willing to pay the PAC schools, as evidenced by the pro-rata clause in the Big 12 contract. We know the networks would pay at least that amount for UW and UO games in the B1G or Big 12. So if the four corner schools went to the Big 12, UW and UO go to B1G, that is 6 of 10 schools they would be willing to pay … just not when they are in the PAC conference.
Every conference has teams that likely do not bring viewership compared to others, so is it that OSU, WSU, Cal, and Stanford are that terrible viewership wise or is it more about consolidation of assets for the networks?
I know it is complicated, and PAC leadership decision making has been abysmal, but the networks seemed to be the influencers.
