WE’RE GOING THROUGH EACH P4 TEAM’S SCHEDULE AND PICKING EVERY GAME.
Today we have the SMU Mustangs.
For years SMU has felt like a Power Conference program that has had to work with one arm tied behind their back. Married to a G5 conference that can never command the revenue needed to compete at a high level, and their massive donor base only able to contribute to the tune of coaching salaries and facility upgrades.
Now they’ve payed their way into the ACC and NIL is legal. It’s a promising time in Dallas.
The SMU roster is a bit perplexing this year in that at the top end they should be able to compete in their new league, but this team has bever gone up against 10 weeks of power football in a season. In 2024 their depth with be tested and their physicality will be challenged far more than it was in the AAC, but I think they will be up to the test.
The schedule is workable, with plenty of winnable games at home (BYU, TCU, Pitt, BC, Cal). I see only 1 guaranteed loss to FSU, but a likely loss to Louisville. Other than that this team could reach 10-2 if they stay healthy and take care of business.
No Virginia Tech, Miami, or Clemson on this schedule and I have them favored in 10 games. The floor is probably 7-5 which would still be a perfectly acceptable welcome to the ACC for the mustangs.
How do you see it?
