Example: Iowa State was scheduled to play South Dakota State as their opener for the 2018 season. Game was cancelled due to weather and ISU scheduled Incarnate Word for a game later that season. Incarnate Word then made the FCS playoffs so Iowa State scrambled to get another game on the docket and thus scheduled Drake University (an FCS non-scholarship team from Iowa) and ended up narrowly avoided the upset 27-24 with Drake leading several times during the game.
