[Cue Taps] Well, it was a fun ride but the PAC 12 is dead. Enter PAC 2 consisting of Washington State and Oregon State. Sadly, these two teams can’t even play in a conference championship so I don’t know if they’d be seen more as G5 or independent for the playoff selection assuming they are in a position to be considered. They are basically barred from entering altogether. Alas, the PAC 2 is basically an extension of the Mountain West conference because that’s basically Washington State’s entire schedule.
It’s going to be very weird seeing the Apple Cup happen in Week 3 but if Wazzu gets the dub it would be iconic. Sadly, the money always wins and I think UW gets the victory. The rest of Washington State’s schedule is pretty easy and they are still a Power 5 team (that’s right, Power 5) so there’s no reason they can’t do extremely well this year. They should win a lot of games. Then at the end of the season we have the unofficial PAC 2 championship which should be a fun game.
Washington State and Oregon State getting left behind is arguably the most depressing result of conference realignment but at least they still have a chance to spoil Washington’s season. There’s no reason they shouldn’t go at least 7-5 but I have them capped at 10-2. Good luck, Washington State. [End taps]
