- I want to start by saying that this is my own personal experience. This is not taking a shot or diminishing at anyone who had a different experience!
Got my first IUD tonight. I was very nervous based on some of the horror stories I read.
I do have a pretty high pain tolerance, but still, I was kind of nervous go into it. I’ve had one vaginal birth.
My gynecologist, prescribed a pain pill, anxiety pill, muscle relaxer, and a pill to help dilate me. Based on reading some of the post here, I realize how lucky I am to have a provider that does not believe women should be in unnecessary pain.
I took the dilation pills, which made me cramp all day, and I took the muscle relaxer. I decided to skip the anxiety and pain pill.
The doctor had a new PA student who asked if she could start the procedure. I allowed it.
The procedure itself was not really that bad at all, it was a pull and bad cramp, reminded me of when I had some IUIs , and he had to pull my cervix near him. Took about 10 minutes, probably would’ve been faster, but the doctor was showing the PA some stuff while she was down there.
They were shocked when I told them I did not take the anxiety or the pain pill.
Just wanted to have some positive stories out there! It’s been about two hours, and I have some bleeding and cramping going on. That’s it. I would say pain wise is a 5/10.
Still have not taken the pain pill or ibuprofen or anything.
