WE’RE GOING THROUGH EACH P4 TEAM’S SCHEDULE AND PICKING EVERY GAME.
Today we have the Oregon Ducks.
Dan Lanning is one of the most highly regarded coaches in CFB, despite 0 conference championships and 0 playoff appearances in his his time at Oregon. That might seem like a knock, but those critics seem to forget that his 2 years in Eugene are his first ever as a head coach and he has also elevated the Ducks to new heights in both investment and recruiting. The recruits are coming, and the trophies will come in time, but will they come in 2024?
Oregon enters the Big Ten as 2nd favorites to Ohio State but that gap is not large at all. The Ducks host the Buckeyes in October and travel to Michigan in November. Those are the only 2 games on the schedule the Ducks will not be 14+ point favorites in all year. It’s a presumed 2 game unless Washington and Wisconsin have figured things out by the end of the year.
Between Ohio State, Michigan, and Oregon, I have them all going 1-1 against each other, with the home team winning every game, but that pattern is not necessarily likely to hold true, and if there is a team to go 2-0 in those games, I think it’s Oregon, because they get the tougher opponent at home and the easier opponent on the road.
The schedule is pretty straight forward but I’ll set a conservative floor at 9-3 if Dillon Gabriel can’t pickup where Bo Nix left off, but if he does the ceiling is 12-0 with a trip to Indy.
How do you see it?
