Hi! I’ve been following a few recommendations for shows and Sense 8 seemed to get a lot of praise.
I’ve now watched the first 6 episodes, and have to admit that I’m kind of done with what feels like 70% character exposition and 25% excuses to show a lot of skin. I don’t mind either, and usually love it when a show takes it slow and leaves room for important moments to linger, but this seems to become rather excessive.
To the point where I’m slowly losing the ability to take the characters seriously. Because so far, only a few seem to even take any interest in exploring what their strange “visits” are. Cop and London girl (which so far has mostly been sitting there with headphones on and little else) even exchanged numbers, but somehow don’t use that to even at least talk about that really peculiar thing happening to them. Lesbian pair have at least noticed that they’re in quite a pickle, but we mostly just see them kissing. Mexican actor doesn’t question anything at all, so does German thief. Indian chick is at least confused, but so far also nothing inquisitive aside from calling German dude a demon. Van Damn seems completely fine with his experiences, as long as mom gets better he seems to be like “whatever man”. Seoul woman is mostly just expressionless, and now in prison. Sad, but somehow entirely disinterested in her strange experiences. Some even shared one massive orgy, and when it’s over, everyone just seems like that didn’t happen at all.
Does it ever get to a point, where the core plot point also becomes the core plot? If it’ll just be more silent scenery with some music, I would like to pull the plug early. But so far, because I like the work of these authors and directors, I’m kind of holding out for the actual show to “begin”. Will it?
Edit: To the downvoters: I didn’t intend to shit on your loved show. I went in with the expectation to love it as well, and tastes differ. Many seem to really like it, so it must be a good show. Just not for me. Please don’t punish me for simply asking an honest question. I’d think that fans of this show would be rather open minded, and open to the concept of varying taste without a need to make it a competition.
