WE’RE GOING THROUGH EACH P4 TEAM’S SCHEDULE AND PICKING EVERY GAME.

Today we have the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Mike Gundy hasn’t had a losing season since 2005 (his first year in Stillwater), and has eight 10+ win seasons in 19 years. He will need a 9th in 2024 in order to reach the ultimate goal of winning the Big12 and reaching the Pokes’ first College Football Playoff.

The roster is old and experienced and returns Heisman hopeful Ollie Gordon II along with 7th year QB Alan Bowman. The defense returns 10 starters but was the weakness in 2023. Continuity is good only if they take a step forward in 2024.

The schedule avoids Arizona and Iowa State but the Cowboys play Utah and Kansas State in back to back weeks early in the season. This veteran core needs to be ready to play right away, as they host Arkansas in week 2 and open conference play with likely their 3 opponents all season. Getting to the first bye at 5-1 would be a big positive.

The back half of the slate is much more manageable, but I predict there will be a surprise slip up somewhere (something that will likely be a common occurrence in the Big12). At TCU is the most likely spot to take a loss but Texas Tech and Colorado to end the season will test them.

With the amount of production retuning and the steady hand of Gundy at the wheel, I think Vegas is missing the mark with a line of 8.5 that opened lower than that in the spring. 8-4 is the floor, but I don’t see any Big12 team getting to 12-0 so the ceiling is 11-1. 7-2 in conference should be enough to get to Dallas but we’ll see how the tiebreakers workout.

How do you see it?
