While TATD had some neat racing and gladiatorial scenes, it ultimately seemed rather bland in comparison to 2005’s Rome. The story arc about Tenax being blackmailed by Ursus, and getting the shit kicked out of him because Tenax learned to fight in the streets and Ursus in the legions. Then they turn right around at the end of the season and have Tenax kill a praetorian guard, citing how Tenax now suddenly had the edge for knowing how to street fight when it apparently meant fuckall against Ursus.
It just seemed like very sloppy writing and a heavy reliance of CGI. Anyone else have any thoughts after seeing it? Already started rewatching Rome again. The only good thing about Those About to Die was Scorpus and his referring to himself in the third person. My wife and I have been saying things like, “Scorpus does not desire chicken for dinner,” or “Bring Scorpus fried eggs, scrambled is for losers and that is something the great Scorpus is not.”
