I just watched this episode for the first time last night-and my goodness. I had read that everyone who watches it is crying and I had expected to do so at the end. What I didn’t expect was to be basically crying about 10 minutes into the episode and from then on.

I put it up there with “The Constant” from Lost as one of the best episodes of TV I’ve ever seen. Whereas The Constant was about romantic love-The Visitor is about parental love. It’s so brilliant how much story and pathos it’s able to pack into its short running time. The idea of a child wanting to change their life to save their father…but the father being dismayed that the child squandered living their life for you-it just hits hard.

Praise to Avery Brooks, Cirric Lofton and Tony Todd for knocking it out of the park in this episode.
