I’ve been thinking about how so much of television discourse likely comes from people of similar viewpoints and that’s why so many lists of the best shows of all time and prestige TV start and end with the stories of middle aged (mostly white) men.
Not there is anything wrong with these stories inherently. I’m not going to argue the greatness of Breaking Bad, Mad Men, or The Sopranos.
Hell sometimes a show is led by a random middle aged white guy even when the story doesn’t call for it, probably because of known market forces. I.e The Wire for some reason telling much of its story through the perspective of its most boring character Jimmy McNulty.
But it does make you think that we as audiences probably have an unfair bias towards these stories that I want to try and kick.
So what are the greatest shows of all time not led by a middle aged man?
