Dave Aranda’s seat is quite toasty. He’s managed to get worse every year and if things don’t turn around quickly he could be one of the first head coaches to set off the coaching carousel. They start out with a cushion of a game but then have to travel to Utah. I don’t know about that one, but their next four games will really make or break Dave. It’s a very easy stretch and if he can o 4-0 there then he probably won’t get fired. 3-1 is nice too, 2-2 is shaky and anything worse might be a wrap.
After they get back from their bye week they go on to a much tougher slate of games. This is where that previous slate from Air Force to Iowa State could come in handy if they can find success there because I don’t see them finding very much success against Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and TCU.
Baylor’s last three games give them a chance to rebound. West Virginia and Houston are very winnable and Kansas can be too. All in all, this is an important year for Dave and if he doesn’t figure things out he’s gone, although he could do just enough for Baylor to stay in Dave Aranda purgatory. We shall see. Ceiling for them is a modest 8-4 with a floor of 4-8. I don’t see them doing worse and they do have some very easy games.
