One of the strangest examples of this to me is Pitt and Georgia. The schools faced off twice in Athens (1973 & 1975). By virtue of meeting for the national title following the 1976 season, Georgia ended up being the first and last team Tony Dorsett would face in his collegiate career.

Then in 1981, Pitt took on defending national champion Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. Dan Marino threw a 33 yard TD on 4th & 4 with 35 seconds left in the game to clip the Dawgs.
