WE’RE GOING THROUGH EACH P4 TEAM’S SCHEDULE AND PICKING EVERY GAME.

Today we have the Michigan State Spartans.

The years since that breakout 11-2 season have been tumultuous at best for the Spartans. Mel Tucker went 9-15 in his last two season and was fired for misconduct, but in comes Jonathan Smith who jumped off the sinking ship that is Oregon State (who in fairness was bombed and torpedoed by the Big Ten and Big12).

Good news Sparty, you no longer have to play Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State every year, and you avoid PSU in 2024. Bad news, you still get Ohio State, and Penn State has been replaced with a road trip to Oregon. Oh, and your 4 toughest games are played back to back to back to back. Does the Big Ten hate MSU??

Michigan State fans, you might as well find something else to do during October. Maybe you can actually make your sister’s wedding now or finally finish that bathroom renovation, because you’re not going to want to watch the football. Ohio State, at Oregon, BYE, Iowa, at Michigan might be the 2nd toughest five weeks of football in the country behind only Florida.

Will the Bye week even help? How many injuries are they going to have after the OSU and Oregon games? Iowa and Michigan are the 4th and 3rd best teams in that stretch, but they’ll likely be playing them banged up. Will anyone be healthy by the time they travel to the Big House?

The ceiling is 8-4, so we need to look at the other 8 games to see how many the Spartans can win. I see two guaranteed wins hosting FAU and Prairie View, but early road trips to Maryland and Boston College are not what you want to see. This team needs to find a way to get to 3-1, because if they don’t they will need to win 4 straight coin flips at the end of the season to make a bowl.

I see them falling just short of the postseason. The floor is likely 3-9 because they get Purdue at home, and they can actually go 8-4 if they stay healthy and Blue Chip transfer QB Aidan Chiles lives up to expectations, but I don’t see how they will be able to make it through that midseason gauntlet and have a team healthy enough to win 4 straight coin flips. I say they split the games and end up hitting the win total right on the number.

How do you see it?
