What I’d seen of the original promos and Seth MacFarlane’s involvement I was basically expecting like “Family Guy CIA parody the show”. I’d seen some clips and stuff lately that got me to give it a try since I have Hulu anyway.
It does do the Family Guy thing a little in season 1 while the show is finding it’s footing, and they are always willing to do a silly comedy beat when called for, but that is not the overall tone at all. This show is absolutely fantastic. It’s funny, it’s heartfelt, there’s action, they deal with moral quandries as well or even better than the best episodes of TNG and DS9. It also has possibly my favorite TV couple of all time now, who I won’t name just for spoiler reasons.
I feel like I could recommend this show to almost anyone really but especially to anyone who is a fan of classic Star Trek. There’s even some Mass Effect references as well.
My only complaint is I only have 3 more episodes to watch. I’ve been limiting myself to one per day but I’m still almost out.
