TEXAS IS BACK. After suffering a shocking loss to Colorado State, Vince Young leads Texas into Ann Arbor and the Longhorn defense stymied JJ McCarthy/Blake Corum for a 37-3 statement win. Vince was the POTG, commpleting 18/23 passes for 265 yards and 3 TD. Elsewhere, #10 Arizona State goes down, failing to defend the desert against Dak Prescott and 2014 Mississippi State.

Cal, the playoff darkhorse? Aaron Rodgers and Marshawn Lynch took a 21-3 lead over Auburn in the first 13 minutes, and were never in much trouble throughout, Auburn going just 1/15 on 3rd downs. We knew Cam would have to carry this team, but I don’t think we expected Cal to be the first team to beat them. #21 Boise State gets a pretty notable win over #23 Oregon in the biggest G5-P5 game of the week. After taking a 28-14 lead in the 3rd quarter, Boise never led by less than 14, an impressive showing that pretty much cements them as the Group of 5 favorite to make the 12-team Playoff.

Embarrassing from Ole Miss. Middle Tennessee RB Dwone Hicks ran for 193 yards and 3 TD, and Middle Tennessee scored 21 unanswered points in the last 6 minutes to run away with it.

  • Alcorn State [15-33] 2012 Vanderbilt (2-0, 0-0)

Big Ten :

Kansas gets a big out of conference win for them, same for Duke. 1997 Nebraska gets a much needed win over Colorado after losing to UTEP in week 1. RB Ahman Green ran for 183 yards and a TD, and Joel Makovicka added another 101 on the ground. And Penn State fans…I have no words. The game with Bowling Green was tied 3-3 going into OT, and they held on for the 21-13 triple OT victory. HUGE win for the Falcons. Iowa picks up a nice rivalry win over Iowa State in the CyHawk. ISU completed a 29-13 comeback to send it to OT, but Daniel Murray hit the game winning 36 yard FG.

  • 2007 Kansas (2-0, 0-0) [41-27] 2001 Illinois (1-1, 0-0)
  • 2013 Duke (2-0, 0-0) [20-6] 2017 Northwestern (1-1, 0-0)

Big 12 :

Cincinnati, I wasn’t familiar with your game. The 2009 Bearcats dispatch Kenny Pickett and rival Pitt with ease. Baylor completed a comeback from 23-6 down to beat Utah in the first conference game of the season. Crushing blow for Ute fans hoping for a playoff push, but Baylor continues to be a dark horse.

  • 2023 Sam Houston (0-2, 0-0) [10-33] 2017 UCF (2-0, 0-0)
  • Long Island University [3-58] 2010 TCU (1-1, 0-0)

ACC :

HUGE UPSET FOR MARSHALL. VIRGINIA TECH REELING. Michael Vick held to just 5/14 passing for 63 yards, 0 TD 1 INT and 31 rushing yards. Not even 100 total yards from him on the game in 29 touches. Suddenly, the Hokies are 0-2 and in the same boat as Playoff hopefuls like Penn State and Notre Dame. Marshall on the other hand…could be a threat. They went 13-0 in 1999, and have 2 nice wins so far this year. Nice win for BYU over SMU as well.

  • 1998 Virginia (1-1, 0-1) [21-31] 2006 Wake Forest (2-0, 1-0)
  • Duquesne [3-48] 2006 Boston College (1-1, 0-1)

  • Merrimack [19-42] 2007 UConn (2-0, 0-0)
American :

FAU beats Army on a late FG, and conversely, Navy beats Temple on an 8 yard Keenan Reynolds TD with 1 minute left. Different directions for the service academies. Memphis had a chance to send the game to OT vs Troy, but their 2 point conversion fell short with 30 seconds left. As for Kansas State, they pick up a solid win over one of the top Group of 5 teams in 2022 Tulane. …with the same score that Tulane beat them in 2022

  • Texas Southern [3-20] 2008 Rice (2-0, 0-0)
  • 2018 Army (0-2, 0-1) [17-20] 2017 FAU (1-1, 1-0)
