One show that I believe had a huge impact on television is Miami Vice from 1984, it incorporated music and visual storytelling like no other show had done at the time, it brought movie style technique’s to the small screen and used hit songs of the era to build atmosphere. They didn’t use songs just to have a song in episodes but scenes were crafted to fit the scene. This is shown perfectly in the 90 minute pilot episode when Crocket and Tubbs are driving to bust a drug deal near the end of the episode while in the air tonight by Phil Collins plays, while they are driving through the streets of Miami both lost in thought about they are about to encounter as the night weaves around them. There are a few times were there are some slow motion gun fights. It’s a great show with a fantastic cast and some great acting as well.
