Abortion. I've commented here a few times trying to come to terms with what the libertarian view may be on this, and yes I understand that anti-abortionists think even a 3 month abortion is murder, and it's still something that keeps me an arms length away from fully sympathizing with libertarianism.
Why isn't evicitionism a more commonly accepted viewpoint on this?
Also, what would libertarians have to say about for instance, an alcoholic or drug addict becoming pregnant?
Like I'm not strictly an alcoholic, don't drink alone or on weekdays, but there's no way I'd be able to stop my semi frequent binges on alcohol + drugs/meds. Wouldn't be able to do it to save my own life.
So would drinking while pregnant then be illegal? And now this is just adding another law/ban which I can't support. Or if it's just social pressure, I truly don't give a shit what my neighborhood or family thinks about me.
All these being said I've never needed an abortion and won't need one, I stress my body too much with exercise and work to get periods anymore. I never want kids, don't like em for myself and I like my monthly vacations and luxuries.
I also hold the view that skilled immigrants are on average more productive than the average of all native born babies, so the birth rate importance pales in comparison to the attractiveness of the country's economy to entice immigrants.
So I don't have any skin in the game honestly but I still care.
Basically I would libertarian for 2 reasons: freedom, and utilitarianism. Banning abortion seems to go directly against those yet I've seen it supported here.
How do you think the libertarian party will ultimately reconcile this issue in the near future?
