WE’RE GOING THROUGH EACH P4 TEAM’S SCHEDULE AND PICKING EVERY GAME.
Today we have the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Will the Hawkeyes ever have a schedule this easy again in the new Big Ten? They dodge Penn State, Michigan, and Oregon, and get Iowa State, Nebraska, and Wisconsin at home.
We know this team will let us down at some point, and the questions around the offense are likely the reason for a 7.5 win total, but I can’t see this team losing more than 4 games. It’s hard to find 3 losses if the offense even has a pulse.
The Cy-Hawk game will be an early season litmus test, as both teams enter 2024 with emboldened expectations. I give Iowa the slight edge in Kinnick and have them 4-0 heading into the bye. The six game stretch between byes is the crucial part of the season. What should be 3 comfortable wins, 1 definite loss, and 2 home games against similar tiered opponents in Washington and Wisconsin. It’s hard to say what the Huskies and Badgers will be this year, so I played it safe and say that Iowa goes 1-1 in those games and I give the win to the team without a first year head coach in a restarting year.
The final 2 games of the season will be a test. At Maryland is the ultimate trap game if this team is trying to look ahead to maybe a top 25 matchup with Nebraska? This could be 2 weeks of needing to take care of business in order to make it to Indy and maybe the CFP.
Floor is 8-4 with losses to Iowa State, OSU, Wisconsin, and Nebraska, but the ceiling could be 11-1 if the elusive offensive touchdown finds it’s way to Iowa City in 2024.
How do you see it?
