I watch Friends and Seinfeld pretty often (they’re my comfort shows). One thing that always gets me is that they were filmed in California… but took place in New York.
That’s not the part that makes it strange. Some of the scenes really were filmed in New York. Friends not as much, but definitely Seinfeld. Lots of establishing shots in New York too.
Why wasn’t a studio built in New York itself? It just seems waaaay more convenient and practical. It doesn’t make sense to me to film some of the show in California… and then some of it way over in New York. Why not just film ALL of it in NY.
It’s a different story if the movie or show takes place in multiple places and for special scenes you have to film it in California.
