But you know what? When people rolled through the door without their masks, asking us if they have to wear it? It was nice to be able to say no.

I'm working as a shift supervisor of a restaurant. I only started a few months ago. However, I know they've been open pretty much the whole time, buffet included. The owner says we aren't allowed to tell people they have to wear a mask. I'm all for that.

When people ask why, I simply say, "he'd rather make money." They laugh, I laugh, its a good time.

I'm just glad that people are so done with covid. We had way higher sales this year, compared to 2019. Did almost 10k on Easter alone, mostly travelers. People from all over the eastern side of the states. Ohio, Michigan, Florida, New York, Pennsylvania, the Carolinas, Georgia, and more. Even the overloaded gas stations, no one wore a mask or practiced social distancing, it feels almost like shit is back to normal.

The reason I call it hell week though, is we are so understaffed I'm surprised we even did 5k. People don't want to work. They get paid to stay home, so why would they? We get applications. They come for the interviews. Then they just never show up for day one. Or they work for a few days and quit.

I hate having to say shit like "im sorry for the wait, we just don't have enough people today" just about every day. Limited seating is kind of saving our asses in that regard, but the limited seating is fucking dumb too. And yet if we were to go back to full capacity we would be fucked.

So, while its nice to see so many people giving lockdown pandemic procedures the middle finger, please don't get frustrated at folks trying to do their job y'all. We are trying so hard to get more workers, but no one wants to work. And I know a lot of you are understanding, but you damn new Yorkers standing around huffing and saying "man I wish I could get a table already" for the fifth time after I told you its gunna be a ten minute wait while looking right at me, yall know what you're doing. Stahp. You see me running around doing 5 fuckin jobs, so shush.

People need to start going back to work. Plain and simple. Jobs are opening up left and right, rates are higher than ever in an effort to get anyone to work. We're offering 11 an hour to wash fucking dishes y'all. Boss man already said if that doesn't get folks in the door we go to 12 and everyone gets a raise for the amount of bullshit thats being shoveled on us.

And the dumbasses sitting at home, taking their unemployment checks and stimulus and fucking off into the night, they don't even realize the opportunities they are pissing away. I read in an msnbc article that people just aren't aware of the job boom, but I seriously doubt that with the fact that every sign everywhere says "NOW HIRING! X AN HOUR! PLEASE GOD WORK FOR US. WHATEVER SHIFTS YOU WANT JUST PLEASE WORK" (clearly dramatized begging because thats really how we all feel, but there really are signs everywhere advertising rates and shift/position availability)

So either they are blind, or total fucking hermits who haven't seen a town since March 2020. I'm banking on them being content to shove cheetos in their pie holes while flipping through Netflix, because they're just getting taken care of for free.

Me personally? I'm just going to invest in my side hustle with my tax return and cross my fingers. Hopefully one day I will make enough to not work for someone else. In the meantime though, wish me luck. I need it. Right now this job is just taking its toll.
