It’s July 1, the day when realignment moves become official. Except for the ones that become official on some other date. But regardless, it’s as good a time as any to make a list of all of them. And as everyone knows by know, there are a lot of big ones this year.

As in previous years, this list focuses on football and basketball. Schools that sponsor football are in bold.

Division I

Reclassification updates

  • Jacksonville State, James Madison, and Sam Houston State have completed their reclassification to FBS.
  • Kennesaw State is in its second and final year of reclassification to FBS. Delaware and Missouri State are in their first year. All three are ineligible for the FBS and FCS postseasons.
  • Bellarmine, Tarleton State, UC San Diego, and Utah Tech have completed their Division I reclassification periods and are now eligible for the postseason.
  • No teams are in the final year of reclassification.
  • Lindenwood, Queens, Southern Indiana, Stonehill, and Texas A&M Commerce are in their third year of the normal four-year reclassification period.
  • St. Thomas is in its fourth year of reclassification, with one year remaining since they’re moving up from D3.
  • Le Moyne is its second year of four.
  • Merrimack and West Georgia are set to begin their first year of four.

Future changes

  • Delaware (FCS, CAA) joins CUSA (FBS) in 2025… Grand Canyon and Seattle (WAC) join the WCC in 2025… Massachusetts (FBS, A-10/football independent) joins the MAC in 2025… Missouri State (FCS, MVC/MVFC) joins CUSA (FBS) in 2025… Richmond (FCS, CAA football) joins the Patriot League for football… UTRGV football begins play in 2025 in the Southland.
