Hi.
Hope you’re doing well.
My go-to example of this is the Buffy writers forcing Xander and Willow as a couple in an otherwise perfect season 3 when there was not really any hint before this of them being anything other than friends. They unnecessarily made them look like bad people (and I am fully on board with giving young people a free pass to make mistakes, but this was bad for these characters) and their romantic relationship made absolutely no sense and it’s almost a miracle they were able to mend this in later seasons with great character development and other relationships for the two characters that made more sense.
I think the show was smart in later seasons to not really acknowledge this very weird chapter in Xander and Willow’s arcs.
What are other very strong platonic relationships between characters that was almost ruined by a poor or divisive creative decision?
