I was looking at a graphic recently showing most hated team by state/province and predictably in the deep south, it was mostly rivals of the most prominent local college football program. But there were two notable exceptions, being Louisiana and Georgia, which showed the Falcons and Saints respectively. I was surprised given the persistent strength of the SEC, especially the Georgia and LSU programs. I’ve never been to louisiana but driving through Georgia I definitely seemed to see more Bulldogs merch than Falcons stuff. Also pair that with the fact that both the saints and falcons franchises have been pretty mid for most of their existence and generally we view the south divisions (both NFC and AFC) as afterthoughts.

So is Saints-Falcons really a strong enough rivalry that it overtakes the local college/SEC rivalries?
