WE’RE GOING THROUGH EACH P4 TEAM’S SCHEDULE AND PICKING EVERY GAME.
Today we have the Duke Blue Devils
Out goes Mike Elko and Riley Leonard, and in comes Manny Diaz and Maalik Murphy. Lots of turnover happening following their best 2 year run since 2014-15, but there are pieces in place to keep the momentum going.
The defense could be an issue with how much production was lost, but that is what Diaz does best. If Murphy is more consistent and players closer to his ceiling, the offense should be the strength of this team.
The first half of the schedule is extremely friendly. Elon, UConn, and Middle Tennessee will not be a problem, and hosting a UNC with equal amounts of turnover will give them the edge. Road games at Northwestern and Georgia Tech are the key to success early.
If they go 5-1 to start, I have a ton of confidence in making a pretty good bowl game. Anything worse and there will be no margin for error coming down the stretch.
The back half of the schedule is brutal. They face 3/4 conference favorites, host SMU and VT, and have to close the season on the road at Wake. I think they beat the newbies at home and get Wake Forest in the season finale, but outside of those, I struggle to find another win late in the season. Maybe Virginia Tech but it depends if the Hokies live up to their hype.
How do you see it?
