It felt like two shows smushed together; a show about a jaded puppeteer reconnecting with his son and getting through his issues as well as a show about a closeted African American detective trying to break up a child trafficking ring and dealing with the bigotry in his town
It’s like the creator had two different ideas for two different shows but didn’t know if they’d get a shot at creating another show so they smushed those two ideas together which made the story, IMO, more convoluted than it really needed to be
